But truth be told, nothing cools you off better than a refreshing drink on a hot summers day! Check out these creative recipes for some of the best drinks for the summer season. Beat the heat with these delicious elixirs.
1. Lemon-flavored iced tea with mint
This tingly and cleansing drink is sure to blast that heat wave.
Recipe for two servings: Add 1 a cup of water to a large saucepan and bring it to boil. Remove the saucepan from heat and use fruit juice to sweeten to taste. Stir to dissolve. Add about ½ teaspoon of regular tea and 1/4 teaspoon of peppermint tea. Allow this mixture to rest for about half an hour. Sieve this mixture and add 1-2 teaspoons of frozen lemonade concentrate. Serve chilled.
2. Minty lemon cocktail
This ‘mocktail’ is certain to keep you fresh.
Recipe for two servings: Take a handful of mint leaves. Grind in a pestle and mortar. Add a handful of crushed ice to two tall glasses. Divide the juice of about 3 fresh lemons among the glasses. Add equal amounts of the mint mixture. Make up the remaining volume with soda water. Sweeten with fruit juice as desired.
3. Strawberry- flavored Mexican fresh water
These fresh fruit water drinks are a delicacy in Mexico. Blended with various fruits, they are colorful and refreshing.
Recipe for two servings: Depending on their size, take a handful of strawberries, and slice them into fine pieces. Take about a cup of water in a bowl, cover it with plastic wrap and refrigerate for about 4 hours. Pour the cooled water and strawberry slices in a blender and blend until smooth. Sieve this blended mixture into a larger bowl. Add about 3-4 cups of cool water (as required) and mix well. Serve chilled. Lime wedges or mint leaves may be used as garnish.
This creative take on lemonade uses oranges to give the same cool and chilled effect.
Recipe for two servings: Take 1-2 cups of water, along with 2 tablespoons of freshly squeezed orange juice and 1 teaspoon of fresh lemon juice. Refrigerate and serve with ice.
5. Peach and custard smoothie
A heavenly blend of raspberries, custard, orange juice and peaches!
Recipe for two servings: Take about 410g of peaches. Wash, rinse and dry them and slice into halves. Add about 100g of raspberries and blend the mixture in a blender. Add 100ml of orange juice and 150ml of fresh custard. Blend to form a smooth mixture. Pour over ice. Use raspberries and custard for garnish. Serve chilled.
6. Melon granita topped with rose
A combination of a drink and a sorbet, this melon granita is a must have this summer.
Recipe for four servings: Scoop and deseed a melon and put the flesh into a food processor. Add a few drops of rosewater. Blend to the consistency of a purée. Add about 600ml of water and blend again to obtain a smooth mixture. Sieve the mixture and freeze the liquid obtained for about 3 hours or until somewhat frozen. Beat with a fork and freeze again. Do this repeatedly to get a slushy and icy texture. Spoon into glasses and decorate with rose petals.
7. Raspberry elixir
Be sure to buy and preserve those raspberries this summer for this amazingly soothing drink.
Recipe for seven to eight servings: Take about 500g of raspberries in a pan. Add about 3 tablespoons of red wine vinegar. Mash the ingredients over a low flame for about 10 minutes. When smooth syrup is obtained, sieve the mixture into a clean dry pan. Place the sieved seeds into another bowl and stir with about 300ml of water. Sieve them again so that maximum pulp can be obtained. Pour this liquid into the clean dry pan as well. Stir the mixture and boil for at least 1 minute. Pour into sterilized bottles. Seal them and store for a few months. Refrigerate once opened. Serve chilled.
